The Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) of Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), provides clinical care and teaching for both in-patient and outpatient setting at Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the largest and oldest Level I trauma referral, safety net hospitals in the United States. The GIM section has approximately 20 faculty members with diverse backgrounds and is the largest division within the MSM. Our faculty members provide primary care through in-patient service, medical consultation and peri-operative medicine. The faculty provides full time in-patient and out-patient services at several locations in the Metro Atlanta area. Our faculty is actively involved in the teaching of the third year clerkship students and internal medicine residents within the Department of Medicine.

The GIM faculty also has the opportunity to participate in MSM Faculty Development Program, which began in 1993 in the Department of Family Medicine. Topics covered include Teaching methods, educational theory; grant writing, primary care research, audiovisual media and writing for the medical literature. Funded by HRSA/s Bureau of Health Professions, the program has trained nearly 100 full-time faculty and community-based preceptors in media, grant writing, primary care research, and writing for the medical literature. The curriculum also covers cross-cultural communications and career issues for minorities in academic family medicine.
