PCP3 screening events and our community-engaged prostate-cancer research initiatives have generated measurable population-level impact. Data from these efforts revealed a surprisingly high incidence of men with previously unknown elevated PSA levels and newly diagnosed metastatic prostate cancer, suggesting that delayed or absent screening—potentially influenced by factors such as healthcare access, distrust, and lack of awareness—has contributed to preventable disease progression in Georgia. Through PCP3, we are actively reversing this trend. The program has increased early detection representing a first-of-its-kind, data-driven model for prostate-cancer equity. Our measurable outcomes underscore that community-anchored precision prevention can produce tangible improvements in population health within just two years of implementation.
Morehouse School of Medicine’s Mobile Health Unit
This is a fully equipped, NIH-funded outreach and clinical research vehicle that has operated continuously since 2012 to expand access to preventive health services among medically underserved populations and to increase enrollment in clinical trials for the overall population. The 38-foot unit is designed to function as a self-contained mobile clinic, featuring a triage and intake area, two private examination rooms, and on-board laboratory capacity including centrifuges and medical-grade refrigerators for the immediate processing and secure storage of biological specimens such as blood and serum.
Within the context of PCP3 efforts, the Mobile Health Unit enables on-site PSA testing, blood collection for biomarker and ancestry studies, and real-time health education during community events across metropolitan Atlanta and rural Georgia. Its mobility allows direct engagement of participants in neighborhoods, churches, civic centers, and workplaces—removing transportation and access barriers that often prevent early detection and clinical trial participation.
