Morehouse School of Medicine recognizes the following legal holidays to be observed by the closing of all departments and offices except where services are essential for school operations.

MSM will provide employees with a floating holiday to be used between 1/1/23-12/31/23. Managers and employees must follow the guidelines and steps below to request and get approval for their floating holiday.
- Except for unusual circumstances, faculty and staff employees should give their supervisors at least two (2) weeks prior notice of their desire to use their floating holiday. You must have approval from your supervisor before taking the time off. In certain settings (Clinical, Public Safety, etc.) more time may be required.
- Floating Holiday requests should not be denied to employees unless it creates an undue hardship.
- Enter the time in Kronos using the “floating holiday” code (Floating Holiday FLTH)
- Exempt (salaried) employees must use the floating holiday in full day increments. Non-exempt (hourly) employees may use the floating holiday in partial increments. The floating holiday is not eligible for payout at termination or carryover to calendar year 2024.
Time off for essential services (i.e., Public Safety, Center of Laboratory Animal Services, and clinical services) must be coordinated with managers. The EVP, Health Affairs and Dean in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and the clinical chairs will coordinate the Morehouse Healthcare medical offices’ schedules. Details regarding staffing at our clinical sites and for essential personnel during the holiday season will be provided later.
