MSM Appoints Gianluca Tosini as New Chief Scientific Research Officer
Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) recently named Gianluca Tosini, Ph.D., as Chief Scientific Research Officer.
Tosini is also the Chair and Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. He has been a member of the MSM Neuroscience Institute since 1998 and most recently served as the Institute’s Acting Director. Tosini is also Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at Emory University School of Medicine.
Tosini is a world-renowned researcher in the area of circadian biology and photoreceptors. He has published over eighty peer-reviewed scientific articles and serves as associate editor of several major journals. He is also a member of a standing NIH study section, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Fellowship review panel and review board of the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (France).
In his role as Chief Scientific Research Officer, Tosini will work with MSM executive leadership to cultivate collaborative, extramurally-funded research that aligns with the institutional strategic plan to translate discoveries into health equity. He will provide leadership and expert advice to ensure independent, rigorous scientific research projects, evaluate and set scientific priorities, and envision the development of new research capabilities to achieve our mission and vision. He will also serve as the principal scientific liaison with external partners and collaborators to communicate scientific capabilities and strategically grow the institution’s scientific research portfolio
