MSM Receives AAMC Spencer Forman Finalists Award for Outstanding Community Engagement
AAMC Annual Meeting: Learn Serve Lead 2018
On Sunday, November 4, 2018, the Association of American Medical Colleges announced the 2018 recipients of the association’s annual awards at “Learn Serve Lead 2018,” their annual meeting in Austin, Texas. The event honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to medical education, research, clinical care, and community service.
Morehouse School of Medicine’s executive leadership, faculty, and staff were in attendance as guests watched the following video, which highlights a few examples of MSM’s engagement in the community:
MSM was selected as one of three finalists for the Spencer Forman Award for Outstanding Community Engagement in July 2018, along with The University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, and The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio School of Medicine. The University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine was named the winner for this year’s award.
About the Award
The Spencer Foreman Award for Outstanding Community Engagement is presented annually to an AAMC-member medical school or teaching hospital with a long-standing, significant institutional commitment to partnering with the community it serves to identify and address community needs. The Foreman Award highlights community engagement as an essential element of the academic mission and singles out institutions that serve as exemplars of social responsiveness on the part of the academic medical community. The award was renamed in 2007 to honor Spencer "Spike" Foreman, M.D., who established the award in 1993 while serving as chair of the AAMC. Learn more by clicking here.
