Morehouse School of Medicine to Hold Second Annual Dr. David Satcher Global Health Equity Summit
Event will bring together thought leaders, health professionals, students and advocates from across the globe to explore innovative strategies and solutions for addressing health disparities worldwide.
ATLANTA, GA – SEPTEMBER 5, 2024 – Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) will hold the second annual Dr. David Satcher Global Health Equity Summit on Monday, September 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place at the Gathering Spot, located at 384 Northyards Boulevard NW, Atlanta, GA 30313. The summit’s theme is "The Quest for Global Health Equity," a call to action in the pursuit of justice and well-being. The timely and impactful event will bring together thought leaders, health professionals, students and advocates from across the globe to explore innovative strategies and solutions for addressing health disparities worldwide. Hosted by MSM’s David Satcher Global Health Equity Institute, the summit will focus on advancing equity in health care, education and policy on a global scale.
"Public health is a global issue that affects every single person, no matter who they are or where they're from. Solutions to our most urgent issues will require collaboration and innovation with partners around the world," said Barney Graham, MD, PhD, director of the David Satcher Global Health Equity Institute. "Morehouse School of Medicine is committed to co-creating systemic change as we continue our mission of creating and advancing health equity to achieve health justice."
Through engaging panel discussions and interactive sessions, participants will delve into pressing issues such as access to maternal health, the intersection of culture and health and pathways for students to become leaders in global health. Other topics will include mental health and cardiology. This gathering aims to inspire and equip the next generation of global health advocates by connecting them with experts and opportunities for education, research and travel.
Dr. Roger I. Glass, former Associate Director for International Research at the National Institutes of Health and the longest-serving Director of Fogarty International Center, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address. Dr. Glass transitioned to Senior Scientist Emeritus in 2023 after a decades-long career in epidemiology and global health.
