Wayne Martin joins Morehouse School of Medicine as Vice President of Government Affairs
Martin will lead MSM on local, state, and federal government issues
ATLANTA, GA – JANUARY 8, 2024 – Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is proud to announce that Wayne Martin has joined the historically Black medical school as Vice President of Government Affairs. In this role, Martin will serve on the institution's executive leadership team, reporting to MSM President and CEO Valerie Montgomery Rice, MD, FACOG, and lead the institution on local, state, and federal government issues.

Prior to joining MSM, Martin was Regional Head of Government Affairs for Starbucks Coffee Company, where he led the company's government and external engagement for its Southeastern, mid-Atlantic, and North Atlantic regions. He also served as senior manager of external affairs for Comcast NBCUniversal in the Atlanta market, where he was responsible for leading the research, development, maintenance, and implementation of policies and programs that enhanced Comcast's relations with the community, the public, and governmental stakeholders. Martin began his career in the public sector and previously served as chief of staff for Atlanta City Council Post 2, chief of staff for the Atlanta Board of Education, and as government affairs director for the Atlanta Housing Authority.
Martin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at Morehouse College and a Master of Public Administration degree from Arkansas State University. He serves on the Board of Directors for Quest Community Housing CDC, the Georgia Restaurant Association, and the Morris Brown College Foundation. Martin is a graduate of LEAD Atlanta, a member of Leadership Georgia's Class of 2024, an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and a member of 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc., where he serves on the programs committee.
First established as a two-year medical program at Morehouse College in 1975, Morehouse School of Medicine has been an independent institution since 1981. In addition to its world-renowned Doctor of Medicine program, MSM offers a wide range of health sciences doctorate and master's degrees in public health, biomedical sciences, and physician assistant studies.
