D is not a letter grade used in the MS in Clinical Research grading system. *Indicates grade not included in the calculation of a student's grade point average (GPA).

Cumulative grade point averages will be calculated each semester. (1) Multiplying the points earned by the course credit hours; and (2) Dividing this product compute the GPA by the total number of semester hours carried. The minimum standard for graduate work leading to the MS degree is a B average (3.0 GPA).

No course credit will be allowed for an F, W, WF, IP**, I, or AUD. When a course, seminar, or research activity is intended to last more than one semester, the notation IP** (In Progress) is made at the end of each grade period until the final grade is given. When assigned work is not completed during a prescribed period, the notation I (Incomplete) may be given with consent of the instructor. If the work is not satisfactorily completed within the time limit allowed by the instructor, up to one year, a final grade of F is given.

Students must have a minimum cumulative average of B. Any student attaining a grade of B- in a required course must perform additional work to maintain satisfactory academic progress. Any student attaining a grade of C or F in a required course must repeat that course. Students may receive a C grade in an elective course, however, the student whose cumulative average falls below B (3.0) at any time will be placed on academic probation and must raise the average to a B within completion of the next 12 semester hours in order to reestablish good academic standing. Failure to do so results in automatic dismissal from the program. Dismissal may be appealed by following the "Student Appeals Procedure" set forth in the MSM Student Handbook.

Class attendance is expected and attendance at tests and examinations is mandatory. Excessive absenteeism may be deemed grounds for course failure or dismissal from the MSCR Program. Excused absence from an examination must be obtained before the examination or upon acceptable documentation of an emergency taking place at a time of the examination. An unexcused absence from a test or examination will result in a failing grade for the portion of the course.

All the requirements for the MSCR degree must be completed within three calendar years to commencing the program. A student must obtain approval to exceed three years for completion. Students may request a Leave of Absence from their graduate studies for up to but not to exceed 12 consecutive months (three consecutive academic terms). The Director, Clinical Chair, and Associate Dean must approve the request. Students on probationary status, if granted a leave of absence will resume their probationary status upon return from their leave.

Each student's continued enrollment in the Master of Science in Clinical Research program is contingent upon satisfactory progress in the total curriculum and the demonstration of behavior consistent with high standards of professionalism and personal honesty.
