MSM on a Mission

Health Connect South featured Carmen M. Dickinson-Copeland, Ph.D. Candidate,  in a video  about innovation in healthcare.

Dr. Camara Jones, senior fellow, Satcher Health Leadership Institute, was appointed to the Dekalb County Board of Health.

Daniel Dawes, Esq., executive director for government relations, policy and external affairs, was featured by Open Government TV for a speech he gave at the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust on health equity.

Former MSM postdoctoral fellow LeConté J. Dil was featured as a guest columnist in the New Pittsburgh Courier. Her column is titled, "A different standard for Black girls."

Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice will be the 2015 keynote speaker for the 9th Annual Georgia Tech Pre-Health Conference.

The Finance Division is offering a Banner Conference March 10 through March 13, 2015, to educate the MSM community about the Banner software. Register today using Cornerstone. Seating is limited.

The American Red Cross' Fourteenth Annual Minority Recruitment Luncheon will be on Feb. 26, 2015, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency. Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice will be the guest speaker. 

Moment in Black History

Alexa Canady (1950-     )
Alexa CanadyIn 1976, Canady became the first black female neurosurgeon in the U.S. She was 26-years-old and a resident at the University of Minnesota at that time. In 1886, she became chief of the neurosurgery department at the Children's Hospital of Michigan, and seven years later, she received the American Women's Medical Association President's Award. Canady was also responsible for the invention of a programmable antisiphon shunt, used to treat excess fluid in the brain.

HawksMSM Night with the Hawks is at Philips Arena on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, t-shirts, bus passes and reception access wristbands must be picked up Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the NCPC Atrium.
