Retraction: On August 24, 2016, Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) reported a story quoting Dr.
Leslie Matthews purportedly opining about the health of U.S. presidential candidate,
Hillary Clinton. The original publication has stated that it has deleted the quote
attributed to Dr. Matthews. MSM News & Announcements, acknowledges that this attribution
was inaccurate and should not have been shared by us to our community. MSM has recalled
the August 24, 2016 edition of this publication.
Neither MSM nor anyone affiliated with the institution is authorized to speak on behalf
of MSM about the health and wellness of Hillary Clinton or any other political or
public figure.
MSM on a Mission
Great partnerships equal great results! The MSM-Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy Welcome
Event took place at the school on August 30, 2016. The event kicked off MSM's partnership
with the academy and included appearances from MSM President and Dean Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, Superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools Dr. Meria Carstarphen, and Tuskegee airman Dr. Hillard Pouncey. At the event, Dr. Montgomery Rice highlighted MSM’s donations to the school, which
include a grant gifting of $150,000 which is part of a $1,000,000 grant award from
the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support the Tuskegee Academy with STEAM programs,
mentoring and parental leadership engagement, and community outreach initiatives.
MSM 2nd year MD student Collin Shumate shares his inspirational experience from attending the AMA Accelerating Change in
Education (ACE) Conference in Sacramento, Ca., with classmates Tedra Thomas (MD3) and Stephany Rush (MD4) with Drs. Anachebe and Elks. MSM is one of 32 member schools of the AMA ACE
consortium and Rush, Shumate and Thomas were nominated by Drs. Anachebe and Elks to

Dr. Kisha Holden has recently been installed as the new Faculty Representative to the Academic Policy Council (APC). Her term will begin this upcoming academic year.
The Office of Faculty Affairs and Development kicked off the 2016-2017 Faculty Development
Seminar Series on Aug. 25th. The first workshop, led by Dr. Erika Brown, was titled "Bringing Out the Best in Your Faculty" and was designed specifically
for department chairs, and institute and center directors. The next workshop, "Preparing
for Your Promotion: Tips and Tools for Faculty," is on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 2 pm in
the NCPC 4th Floor Board Room. Please join us for our monthly seminar series: 2016-2017 Seminar Schedule
Dr. Harry Heiman provided a keynote address titled "Access to Health Care: Challenges & Opportunities"
highlighting the disparities in access and outcomes experienced by immigrant and refugee
communities and the opportunities for accessing health insurance coverage and care
at an Ethiopian Community Meeting on August 17, 2016 at the Clarkston Community Center.
The event was sponsored by Georgia Refugee Health and Mental Health, Centers for Medicare
and Medicaid, and HHS Region IV.
Dr. Eric Flenaugh is featured in the August 2016 issue of Atlanta magazine, where his use of high-tech
electromagnetic navigation equipment in the early detection and treatment of lung
