Vivien Thomas Summer Research Program
The Vivien Thomas Summer Research Program is now the MSM S.T.E.A.M. Academy (9-12)
The Office for Educational Outreach and Health Careers is committed to helping MSM’s mission to increase the number of individuals underrepresented in medicine, the health professions, and the scientific workforce by providing pipeline programs designed to enhance educational opportunities in STEAM disciplines, intensify exposure to cutting edge biomedical and public health research, and provide preparation for successful application to and matriculation in schools emphasizing careers in the health professions.
The newly developed MSM S.T.E.A.M. Academy (9-12) will introduce students to biomedical research and health careers. Participants will be immersed in scientific instrumentation, laboratory techniques, and individual or team projects completed in a 6-week session. Students will also participate in mini-courses and workshops on health equity, careers in the sciences and health professions, critical thinking and career planning.
