How do I submit my application?

MSM participates in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). AMCAS is a centralized procedure for applying to any participating medical school with only one application and one set of official transcripts of academic work. Formal application for admission to the first-year class must be submitted through AMCAS. Students are emailed a secondary application by invitation only.

The AMCAS application for admission, common to all participating medical schools, may be obtained only through AMCAS. Necessary forms and information may be obtained from premedical advisors or from:

When do I apply?

Application Deadline: December 1st (Fall Admissions Only)

Transfer Applicants

A few students may be accepted annually as transfer students into the second-year class, if space is available. Applications are accepted from students enrolled in LCME accredited U.S. and Canadian schools of medicine, who are in good academic standing, have the full approval of the dean of their current school and have a cogent reason for requesting transfer. Academically qualified applicants can still be denied admission due to lack of space. MSM does not accept applications for advanced standing from students attending foreign medical school, osteopathic or veterinary schools.

Selection Factors
The selection of students by the committee is made after careful consideration of many factors, among them intelligence, preparedness, motivation and aptitude.  In the evaluation, account is taken of the candidate's scores on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), evidence of academic achievement, the extent of academic improvement, balance and depth of academic program, difficulty of courses taken and other indications of maturation of learning ability.

The committee is also interested in the activities of the applicant outside of the classroom, including the nature of extracurricular activities, hobbies, (the need to work), research projects and experiences, evidence of activities that indicate concurrence with the school's mission and evidence of pursuing interests and talents in depth.

Lastly, the committee looks for evidence of personal character and responsibility, compassion, honesty, motivation, and perseverance all of which, in the committee's opinion, indicate that the applicant shows promise of contributing to the advancement of the art, science, and practice of medicine after obtaining the M.D. degree.  The committee's consideration of these factors is based on all components of the applicant's file, including letters of recommendation, the academic record, the supplemental application and the interview should one be granted. Qualified residents of the state of Georgia will be given high priority. Students who have been dismissed from another medical school will not be considered for admission.

International applicants must have a permanent visa.

Interviews

After all application materials have been received, the completed application is reviewed by a screening committee and selected candidates are invited for an interview. The Admissions Committee would like to interview every applicant who passes the initial evaluation screening process, but since this involves hundreds of applicants, it is impossible to accomplish. Only those students who, on the basis of application data, appear to merit serious consideration for admission are selected for interviews. Approximately five percent of all applicants will be asked to visit MSM for interviews. Invitations for interviews are sent in writing and by email, and the Office of Admissions schedules all appointments. The interview is at the applicant's expense. If an applicant is planning an interview trip that will include the Atlanta area, the inquiry should be made at least three weeks in advance of the anticipated travel.  A Student Host Program is available for all interested applicants. It is appropriate to write and inquire if an interview will be requested to:

MSM's policies applying to the disclosure of information on student records are consistent with federal and state regulations. Applicants should be aware that letters and statements of recommendation or evaluation are prepared submitted or retained with a documented understanding of confidentially, and are not subject to inspection by applicants. To ensure that the confidentiality of materials in each applicant's file is maintained, members of the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs staff will not divulge over the telephone, or in writing, information regarding a decision on an applicant. One exception to this rule is that, if written consent is given, the Office of Admissions may inform the student's premedical advisor of action taken on the application by the committee.

Interview Day

  • A visit with MSM's Financial Services
  • An overview of the curriculum, facilities and student support
  • A tour of the MSM campus
  • Two individual interviews with faculty
  • Lunch with the dean of admissions
  • A tour of one clinical medical facility where M.D. students receive clinical experience

Accepted MD Application

Upon notification of an offer of acceptance for admission to MSM, the applicant is required to submit a letter of intent. The applicant must respond to the offer of admission within two weeks. An extension of this deadline may be granted upon written request by the applicant. A $100 reservation deposit is required to be submitted with the letter of intent. If the accepted applicant withdraws from the class with written notification to the Office of Admissions & Student Affairs by April 30th, the deposit is refunded.

Students accepted for admission must pay tuition and fees in accordance with the MSM policy in order to enter. Students may apply for loans, scholarships and grants in order to meet these financial obligations. The ability to finance a medical education is not a factor in the selection of candidates for admission. However, the final responsibility for payments of fees and tuition and for the provision of living expenses lies with the student.
